When I Was Hungry

Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes • April 22, 2025

Let's be the change we want to see

On Sunday, we will once again welcome our friends from Bread for the World to The Garden. Over the years, we have partnered with Bread for the World to help combat hunger and provide hope and nourishment to people in need. As an advocacy organization, Bread for the World passionately works to push decision-makers to take action and help create a world where no one goes hungry. Their mission is rooted in educating and equipping individuals to advocate for impactful policies and programs that address hunger here in the U.S. and globally. There is enough for everyone if we collectively make this a priority!

This weekend during our service, we invite you to be part of this meaningful cause. You will have the chance to lend your voice to those who may feel unheard and advocate for change that uplifts the lives of the hungry. Throughout scripture, Jesus calls on us to be His hands and feet, to share compassion, and to respond to the needs around us. Will we answer this calling and embody love through action? Together, we can make a difference. Join us this Sunday for “When I was Hungry,” and let’s be the change we want to see in the world. We look forward to seeing you there!

Betty Brandt comments on how two films—Conclave and Penguin Lessons—have taken on unexpected relevance in 2025. Conclave offers a glimpse into the process of selecting a new pope, coinciding with Pope Francis’s passing, while Penguin Lessons delves into Argentina’s turbulent 1970s, raising questions about justice and moral responsibility. Explore their significance in today's changing world.
