Newly-elected GLT member Patti Duckworth Read began attending The Garden four years ago. She finds inspiration in The Garden’s inclusivity, its music, its outreach projects serving needs in the greater community, and Pastor Carolyn. She grew up in Franklin, Indiana, where she served as Deacon at First Presbyterian Church.
Patti is a retired educator, mother of three, grandmother of seven, and wife of Michael Read –all the loves of her life. She spent more than 35 years in education as a teacher, school counselor, and elementary school administrator. She was a member of Indiana School Counselor Association, Indiana Association of School Principals, and Johnson County Community Foundation, and served as a Counselor with the Johnson County Youth Connections. Currently, she volunteers at Riley Children’s Hospital in the Baby Safe Sleep mentor program. She earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, a master's in School Counseling, additional post graduate certifications, and licensure in School Administration.
Patti is deeply passionate about fighting racism, and hopes to welcome more people of color into The Garden community. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, and flower gardening. Nothing gets her moving more than Hip/Hop, Funk, and R&B music!
