What is Christian Nationalism?

Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes • August 20, 2024

This Sunday at The Garden, we invite you to join us for a thought-provoking message on the topic of Christian Nationalism, inspired by Andrew Whitehead’s insightful book, American Idolatry. Whitehead, a Sociology Professor at Indiana University, researches and documents how Christian Nationalism has shaped and influenced American Christianity. His work challenges us to reflect on the ways in which power, fear, and violence can distort the gospel’s message of love and compassion. As we gather, let’s approach this discussion with open hearts and minds, seeking to understand and embrace the true essence of our faith and embrace our responsibility to model the golden rule and remember that as Christians, we do not hold a monopoly on God. Together, we can explore how to foster a community rooted in empathy, justice, and the loving teachings of the gospel. We look forward to seeing you at Sunday service and sharing in this important conversation Together in 111.
