The Wise Women of Advent: Part 3
Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes • December 9, 2023
Girl, Interrupted
On Sunday, we continue our journey with the wise women of Advent. This week, we will seek wisdom from a young woman named Mary. Scripture tells us she found favor with God. Some might question whether this truly was a sign of favor as it led an unwed teen to become pregnant in unbelievable circumstances. But sometimes it's not the circumstances we find ourselves in, but instead how we handle ourselves in the midst of life. Sunday, we will consider Mary, a young woman wise beyond her years who is favored by God.

Betty Brandt comments on how two films—Conclave and Penguin Lessons—have taken on unexpected relevance in 2025. Conclave offers a glimpse into the process of selecting a new pope, coinciding with Pope Francis’s passing, while Penguin Lessons delves into Argentina’s turbulent 1970s, raising questions about justice and moral responsibility. Explore their significance in today's changing world.
